MONTEREY VISTA, Calif. — October 29, 2026. Residents traveling along Mar Vista Drive between Dry Creek and Soledad Drive can track an ambitious neighborhood road-reconstruction design effort. The Monterey Vista Neighborhood Association identifies the project as 35N1616 — Mar Vista Reconstruction Design, involving approximately 2,700 linear feet of roadway and seven intersections without existing stop controls. The archive gives a design-and-environmental-work budget of about $263,000.
What is different from a simple asphalt resurfacing?
The design scope goes beyond filling potholes. It calls for considering changes to roadway crown, ADA curb ramps, curb extensions, small median islands and possibly stormwater-treatment features where required. Because the project crosses several intersections and passes streets used by school families, the proposal also aims to make the corridor competitive for potential Safe Routes to School and Complete Streets grants.
Why the seven intersections matter
The community’s interest is in managing both through traffic and residential access. The association’s project description does not establish a city engineering finding that every crossing requires the same treatment; exact intersection designs would depend on professional review, environmental requirements and available funds.
The project is intended to generate a shovel-ready design for a possible future construction project. Design financing is not a construction contract, and neither a current bid date nor a street-closure schedule is verified in the public archive.
What residents can ask the city
Useful follow-up questions include whether plans covering Dry Creek–Soledad have been finished, which corners would change, whether stormwater treatment remains in scope and how to obtain the drawings before any funding vote. The neighborhood’s NCIP project archive identifies the effort as 35N1616; the Monterey public meeting portal should be checked for any later adopted design, contract or timing.
This is a separate street-reconstruction design from the San Bernabe Drive construction package and the new Munras/Via Arboles curb-ramp proposal.
